The fracture of the fraction

Thirds are very interesting. I can picture halves and quarters and so on easily. But thirds. It's just so conceptually irregular. It's not a whole number. .3333333. What the hell is that? Even when you have 3 thirds (i.e. a whole), you don't have a proper number (.99999) - this only becomes one through rounding up. It's just so wrong!! But many things depend on this fraction.
